Premier Payroll Solutions Named to the 2023 Inc. 5000
LONG ISLAND, NY | August 2024 | Premier Payroll Solutions has been named to the 2024 Inc. 5000 list of America’s fastest growing private companies, marking the second consecutive year the company has appeared on the national ranking following its debut in 2023.
The repeat listing reflects another year of steady momentum for the Long Island based payroll, tax, and HR provider. Premier points to the source of that momentum without much hesitation: clients who renewed and expanded what they use, employees who keep those accounts running, and the accountants, benefits advisors, and industry contacts who continue putting the company in front of business owners.
“A single strong year can be luck. Two in a row starts to look like something the company is actually doing right,” said Michael D’Onofrio, Managing Partner and President of Premier Payroll Solutions. “The growth came from the same place it came from last year. We took care of the clients we had, and they handed us the ones we did not.”

Repeat Business and Word of Mouth
The Inc. 5000 measures three year revenue growth among privately held American companies, which makes a second appearance harder to earn than a first. Staying on the list requires a company to keep growing rather than to have grown once. Premier entered at No. 4,083 in 2023 and moved up to No. 3,141 this year.
Very little of that came from advertising. Most new clients arrive through someone who already works with Premier, or through a partner willing to attach their own reputation to the introduction. A steady share also comes from owners leaving national providers, worn down by service delivered through a ticket queue rather than a person who knows the account.
Premier was built to sit in that gap. The company gives employers the technology a national provider offers while keeping the access and responsiveness that tends to disappear at scale.
The Industries Others Find Complicated
Restaurants and hospitality groups remain the heart of Premier’s client base, and the depth the company built there has proven useful well beyond the dining room.
Over the past year Premier has taken on more security firms, trucking operations, and property management companies. Security work brings rotating overnight shifts, union dues, and government contract requirements. Trucking brings drivers paid by the mile across multiple states. Property management brings labor costs that have to be split cleanly across separate buildings. In most cases those employers arrived after outgrowing a provider whose software was never designed for any of it.
“Every industry we work in has its own version of the sentence ‘this is complicated,’” D’Onofrio said. “Restaurants have tips and split shifts. Trucking has drivers paid by the mile across state lines. Security has union rules and government contracts. Our job is to actually understand those rules, not simply to produce a paycheck.”
Growing Without Losing the Relationship
Premier has hired deliberately rather than quickly. The company added payroll specialists and account managers over the past year for a specific reason: to hold the ratio of clients to experts close enough that every account still has a person attached to it.
That structure is the reason a client calls a name rather than a queue. D’Onofrio has been direct with his own team about protecting it as the company grows, treating the model less as a courtesy and more as the thing Premier is actually selling.
Alongside the hiring, Premier has continued expanding its software integrations, connecting payroll more directly to the point of sale, timekeeping, and accounting systems employers already run. The practical result is fewer hours spent reconciling the same numbers in three places.
“Software is table stakes now. Everyone has decent software,” D’Onofrio said. “What separates us is that a real person who knows your business answers the phone. That is not going to change no matter how large we get.”
The Year Ahead
Premier plans to keep investing in its team, its technology, and the partner relationships that have driven most of its growth, with a third consecutive Inc. 5000 appearance in 2025 as the stated goal.
“Two years on this list is a good sign, but it is a sign, not a finish line,” D’Onofrio said. “The businesses we serve are getting more complicated, not less. If we keep building for that and keep answering the phone, the growth takes care of itself.”
